Sighting of the moon at the beginning of Ramadan is an exciting time as it connects us to Allah's creation and marks the commencement of a blessed and sacred month. It allows us to follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who instructed us to observe the moon's sighting to begin the fast. The physical act of seeing the moon brings a sense of spiritual renewal and unity among Muslims across the world. However, calculating the start of Ramadan through astronomical methods is often considered inaccurate because the angle at which the moon becomes visible differs depending on geographic location. As a result, the moon's visibility is not the same everywhere, and relying solely on mathematical predictions without sighting the moon may lead to discrepancies. The true beginning of Ramadan is ideally determined by actual moon sightings, ensuring that the practice adheres to the traditional way outlined by the Prophet (PBUH). Our goal is to bring back the Sunnah, not put down calculations. We will announce the beginning of Ramadan through a notification of the Masjid Omar Application and on our website.
